The Kenyatta University Charity Golf Tournament for OVS Programme

Kenyatta University (KU) through its philanthropic arm, Kenyatta University Foundation is organizing a golf tournament on 22nd and 23rd July 2016 to be held at Muthaiga Golf Club, Nairobi. The purpose of the planned golf tournament is to raise funds in support of Orphans and Vulnerable Students (OVS) at KU. This is in line with the mission of KU to provide quality higher education and training; and to promote scholarship, service, innovation and creativity. In line with our vision ‘to be a dynamic, an inclusive and a competitive centre of excellence in teaching, learning, research and service to humanity’, the University endeavours to reach all aspects of society and impact communities in a positive way. Currently our student population is over 70,000 spread across various campuses offering different courses. In concurrence with the Kenyatta University Foundation motto ‘Transforming Higher Education through Partnership’, we are calling on all friends, partners, alumni, staff and students of Kenyatta University to join us in this noble cause to raise funds to support orphans and vulnerable students.
The Kenyatta University Orphans and Vulnerable Students (OVS) scholarship programme
Orphans and Vulnerable Students (OVS) face overwhelming challenges: inability to pay fees and subsistence due to poverty, lack of social support, disability and discrimination, gender-based cultural discrimination and being orphaned from disease or natural calamities. Availing scholarships is the most direct way the University can make a difference in the lives of such students as their opportunities are expanded, and thus enabling the university to support, recognize and reward outstanding academic achievers who are otherwise disadvantaged. Supporting OVS is in line with the University’s philosophy of being sensitive to societal needs.
Annually, Kenyatta University admits more than 3,000 orphans and vulnerable students (OVS). The University has a dedicated directorate known as Financial Aid Office that coordinates the welfare of orphans and vulnerable students enrolled at KU. Despite the high number of OVS in need of financial support, the directorate can only finance 100 scholarships annually. Many deserving applications are turned down due to the limited number of scholarships that the University can offer.
Scholarship for orphans and vulnerable students at KU are open to deserving students from all counties in Kenya, thereby multiplying the overall impact equitably across Kenya at family and community levels. The funds raised through the golf tournament would enable financial support for needy students by paying their fees and subsistence when pursuing education at Kenyatta University during four years of undergraduate study. The orphans and vulnerable students who will be selected for scholarship are those who will have passed the secondary school education examination and eligible for admission at KU.
How you can support us:
Golfers: Golfers can register to play at Muthaiga Golf Club on 22nd and 23rd July by calling the club administrator.
Corporate sponsors: Corporates can support this fundraising initiative by sponsoring the event through adopting and branding any of the Holes 1 to 18 according to value preference. Distinguished guests will include golfers, philanthropists, media personalities, leaders and KU friends, alumni, students and academia. This is an opportunity to enjoy presence as well as to give back to the community by supporting needy university students in our society. The occasion will provide an ambient environment of entertainment, sport and relationship-building with outstanding business partners and clients.
