Machakos Town MP, Victor Munyaka, a failure in Ukambani
By Job Mwendwa
Machakos Town MP, Victor Munyaka should be placed on the radar of his constituents, Machakos County residents in general and anti-corruption agencies for his blatant corrupt practices and sheer immorality.
The MP, who had been mutating through different political parties, and only uses money to buy out voters in successive election cycles, has been a big burden to Machakos Town constituency residents for the past 10 years.
Riding on the imagination of protection by a well-known politician who ranks high in corruption perception across the country, Munyaka has been literally milking dry the Machakos Town CDF kitty through dubious tendering deals involving construction of school buildings and procurement of school busses.
Having escaped ouster by a whisker through an election petition filed by his archrival, Urbanus Mutisya, the MP who lacks oratory skills, political ambitions and charisma is now sitting pretty, banking on a promise for appointment to a cabinet secretary position by his key financier after the 2022 general election.
The most recent indicator of his corrupt personality was his failure, as the chairman of the House committee on Sports, Culture and Tourism to produce before parliament a report on expenditure after leading dozens of MPs to watch the World Cup finals in Russia where hundreds of millions of shillings went to the drain.
Reports indicate that the corrupt MP, through the protection of his god father, pocketed sh 75 million from the Russia merry-making trip, and has been unable to file a substantive report before House Speaker, Justin Muturi.
A well-placed source has indicated the director of public prosecutions, Noordin Haji is currently collecting incriminating evidence to have the MP arrested and charged with committing an economic crime.
Back in his constituency, Munyaka is fighting off widespread resentment by residents, who are accusing him of non-performance and plunder of CDF kitty.
“We expect our MP to be busy touring the constituency to initiate development projects across the constituency but he has failed. We only hear him on radio stations fighting other elected leaders,” said Janet Musyoki, a trader in Mutituni market.
